Authorities in Jefferson Davis County are investigating a shooting over the weekend that left one person dead and one person injured.
According to investigators, the shooting happened on Friday night on Highway 42 between Carson and Prentiss. They say someone fired shots into a vehicle in which four people were sitting, and two were hit.
The vehicle swerved into the ditch and the Jaws of Life had to be used to extract the passengers from the vehicle. Two were taken to a local hospital, and one of the shooting victims was pronounced dead there.
Authorities say they have a suspect in mind in the shooting, but that they aren’t releasing further information yet. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is also looking into the situation.
