An Ovett man is under arrest after Jones County officials say he fired shots at his wife and another man off Highway 15 South.

Jones County Sheriff’s Department deputies located and arrested a man just after midnight on Monday after he allegedly shot at his wife and a man with a handgun as they attempted to round up some horses on George Boutwell Road off of Highway 15. Fortunately, neither individual was struck by gunfire in the incident.

George Shirley, 61, is charged with Domestic Aggravated Assault and Violation of a Protection Order. His bond was set at $101,500 in Jones County Justice Court.  JCSD deputies located Shirley,  who returned to his residence on Wildlife Lake Road,  approximately two hours after the incident.

In addition to multiple JCSD units which responded, units from EMServ Ambulance Service, Glade Fire & Rescue, and Powers Fire & Rescue were involved in the response which initially was indicated as a victim being shot. No medical transport was required for either individual victim following the incident.
