JACKSON — A 63-year-old man was killed early Monday after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing Interstate 20 near Gallatin Street, according to the Jackson Police Department.
Precinct One officers responded to the crash at about 6:25 a.m. Aug. 24. Investigators said the man was crossing the interstate when he was struck by a silver Chevrolet Cruze.
The driver told officers she was traveling on I-20 just before dawn when her vehicle struck the pedestrian. She called 911 and remained at the scene until officers and American Medical Response personnel arrived.
The Jackson Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit, AMR and the Hinds County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.
The coroner pronounced the man dead at the scene and took custody of his body. Police have not released his name, and notification of his next of kin was pending.
The investigation remains ongoing.
