A Tuesday afternoon traffic stop in Sandersville escalated into a high-speed chase that ended with three people in custody on multiple charges, according to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department (JCSD).
Deputies say the incident began when Sergeant Derick Knight, Corporal Jared Hutto, Deputy Kalob Broadway, and Deputy Lou Lowe were conducting a safety checkpoint on West Main Street near the I-59 intersection. A Dodge Journey Crossroad with a Forrest County tag stopped at the checkpoint but then fled east into downtown Sandersville. Two passengers were inside the vehicle in addition to the driver.
Deputies chased the SUV as it continued onto Pleasant Grove Road toward Wayne County before turning onto Charlie Green Road and heading toward Highway 84 East in Jones County. During the pursuit, a handgun was thrown from the fleeing vehicle and later recovered.

Additional Jones County Sheriff’s Department units responded and deployed stop sticks at Highway 84 East and Charlie Green Road. Narcotics agents Lieutenant Jake Driskell, Sergeant Joel Brogan, Agent Chase Smith, and Agent James Bell deflated all four of the runaway vehicle’s tires. This caused the vehicle to stop less than a mile later.
Deputies reported that the driver and one passenger resisted arrest but were taken into custody. A second passenger refused to comply with commands and was removed from the vehicle by K9 Obie, handled by Sergeant Knight. This marked the K9’s 17th career felony apprehension.
All three suspects were booked into the Jones County Adult Detention Facility pending initial appearances in Jones County Justice Court.
Those arrested include:
-
Dante Carter, 27 (Driver) — felony fleeing, DUI first, no driver’s license, no insurance, possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest.
-
Jimmarious Williams, 21 (Passenger) — disorderly conduct, resisting arrest.
-
Jimmarcus Williams, 22 (Passenger) — tampering with physical evidence, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest.
No deputies were injured, and no JCSD vehicles were damaged during the pursuit.
