Morgan Howard

A motorcyclist is under arrest after leading a Pearl officer on a chase up I-55 Monday just after lunch.

According to detectives, a Pearl police officer observed a motorcycle with no tag traveling at a high rate of speed near Highway 80 and Bass Pro Drive and attempted to make a stop.

The motorcyclist refused to pull over and tried to outrun the officer, getting on I-55 and heading north toward Jackson.

The fleeing motorcyclist, who police determined to be Justin Jerome Gatlin, 30, of Jackson, took the High Street Exit, at which point he lost control of his bike and wrecked. He did sustain minor injuries, but is expected to be okay.

While taking him into custody, officers found a gun on him.

Gatlin has been charged with Felony Fleeing, Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon, Reckless Driving, No Tag, and No Insurance.
