Authorities say a Monroe County man has been arrested after allegedly using a child to help him steal guns from a local store.

Alvis Eugene West has been arrested by Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and charged with the following charges related to stealing guns from a business in Hamilton over the weekend.

  • 2 counts of Possession (by theft) of a Stolen Firearm
  • 2 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
  • 1 count of Causing a Youth to Commit a Felony

West allegedly took the firearms from the business on two different days, using a child to carry the firearm out of the store on one occasion.

Details are unclear in the crime, but a surveillance photo from the MCSO shows a young child carrying a rifle along with a man in what looks like a suit jacket.

West was on Parole with MDOC at the time of the crime and is being held by that agency out of Lowndes County.
