Mississippi Day Care Director Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting Children

Morgan Howard

A Senatobia Day Care Director was arrested Thursday for Simple Assault.

According to police, on Wednesday, November 15, police were called by a MS State Department of Health Bureau of Child Care Licensure investigator regarding a complaint that was filed by their office.

The allegation said that a child was assaulted by an employee of Peek-A-Boo Playschool on Norfleet Drive in Senatobia.

The employee named in the allegation was the facility director, Amye Durham.

Investigators from the MS Bureau of Child Care Licensure met with investigators of the police department and discussed the allegation. They determined that there were two separate incidents with two separate children that needed to be discussed.

During the meeting, evidence was discussed and evaluated along with discussions of what/if criminal statutes were violated. It was determined during the meeting that the appropriate charge for the incidents for which probable cause had been developed was Simple Assault.

Thursday, November 16, two warrants were issued for Durham’s arrest and Thursday afternoon, officers with the Senatobia Police Department arrested Amye Durham at the daycare facility without incident.

Durham was booked on two counts of Simple Assault and transported to the Tate County Jail with a $1,000 bond.

This is an ongoing investigation by the Senatobia Police Department and independently by the MS State Department of Health.  They are asking that if a citizen has any information regarding previous incidents or concerns about the Peek-A-Boo Playschool, please contact Detective Brannon Rushing at the Senatobia Police Department.
