Man Arrested After Leading Tupelo Police Officers On Chase

On December 9, officers with the Tupelo Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation and an equipment violation on South Gloster Street near Green Tee Road.
The driver of the vehicle initially pulled to the side of the road and stopped, but then fled the scene.
After a brief pursuit, the suspect collided with two other vehicles and the suspect fled the scene on foot.
Officers were able to catch the suspect and he was taken into custody.
The driver, 39-year-old Derrick T. Smith (from Okolona) was charged with Felony Fleeing.
Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Allen set his bond at $50,000.
These charges will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury. At the time of his arrest, Smith was found to have an active capias warrant through Monroe County, was found to be in possession of narcotics, and was found to be in possession of a firearm.
Additional charges could be forthcoming.
