A massive fire surged through Brookwood Apartments in Brookhaven overnight, taking the lives of two residents.

Just after midnight, Brookhaven Fire Department and every volunteer department in the county were called to the elderly complex on Choctaw Drive in Brookhaven.

According to a post on Loyd Star Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page, volunteers assisted the Brookhaven Fire Department in getting the residents to safety and extinguishing the flames.

Brookhaven School District Transportation Department helped to bus everyone to the shelter location.

According to Loyd Star’s post, Brookhaven Fire Department will be accepting donations of clothing, shoes, blankets, and other items for the victims.
