Lowndes County deputies probe homicide after body found in burned car

Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department is looking into a homicide case after a body was found in a burned car in the southern part of the county.

Authorities say on Monday at 08:21 a.m., Lowndes County E-911 received a report of a body found at Luxapallila Creek Park.

Deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office located the body inside a vehicle that had been completely burned. The Criminal Investigation Division was contacted and responded to the scene. At this time, detectives are treating this case as a homicide.

The Lowndes County Coroner’s Office responded and a positive identification of the deceased, along with an official cause of death will be made by the Mississippi Office of the State Medical Examiner. WCBI reports that it’s not clear if the body is that of a female or a male.
