Lowndes County Deputies arrested an Alabama man wanted in connection to several outstanding felony charges in North Carolina.
34-year-old Sherman Dewayne McCoy is wanted by the Fayetteville Police Department in Cumberland County, North Carolina for First Degree Forcible Rape, First Degree Statutory Sex Offense, Sexual Act by a Substitute Parent or Custodian and Indecent Liberties with a Child.
Deputies found McCoy at an apartment in east Columbus last night around 6:30 p.m., and during the arrest, deputies could smell marijuana coming from the apartment.
Deputies applied for a search warrant and during the execution of the warrant, found a felony amount of marijuana.
Deputies also recovered an AR-style pistol and a large amount of U.S. Currency.
McCoy will now face felony charges of possession of Marijuana more than one once and possession of a firearm by a felon in Lowndes County before he is extradited back to North Carolina.
McCoy has been booked into the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center 8 previous times for 8 different felony charges and 15 misdemeanor charges.
He has also been convicted twice in Lowndes County both times for burglary. McCoy remains in custody awaiting his initial appearance.
