A Jones County man was arrested over the weekend after a high-speed chase.

A release says that Jones County Sheriff’s Department Chief of Investigations and Narcotics Vince Willams arrested Davian Jefferson, 22, of Heidelberg, on Saturday night.

Chief Williams was working an overtime impaired driver enforcement detail, funded by a grant from the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety, when he attempted a traffic stop on a Dodge pickup on Sharon – Sandersville Road. The pickup driver accelerated his vehicle quickly and failed to stop for Chief Williams. The pursuit continued onto Sharon Road before the pickup pulled over in the parking lot of First Baptist Church of Sharon. Additional JCSD units were converging in the area to assist with the pursuit.

Davian Jefferson was arrested on the scene and charged with DUI-2nd, Eluding/Fleeing In A Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and No Drivers License. A male passenger in the pickup Jefferson was driving was not charged.

Jefferson was booked into the Jones County Adult Detention Center and has since bonded out.
