The Jones County Sheriff’s Department has been recognized by the Mississippi Department of Public Safety Sex Offender Registry for successfully maintaining adequate compliance of all registered sex offenders within the county’s jurisdiction for a full year.

Jones County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Wesley Waites is in charge of ensuring compliance by the 124 registered sex offenders in Jones County.

His caseload in the past five weeks has grown from 119 to 124 registered sex offenders with another sex offender being released from prison soon and returning to Jones County.

Jones County Sheriff Joe Berlin notes, “We actively monitor and ensure compliance of all of our registered sex offenders in Jones County. JCSD Investigator Wesley Waites is well known for his steadfast and zero-tolerance enforcement of the laws related to sex offenders and their compliance. We do not play when it comes to enforcement of the laws related to sex offenders and their compliance,”

Wesley Waites said,

“Jones County registered sex offenders know that we will issue an arrest warrant in a heartbeat if they fail to comply. Follow the law or go back to jail. That’s as simple as we can make it for them.”
