Classes at Jackson State University were canceled Monday after a student was killed.
A man named Jaylen Burns was killed late Sunday evening at the University Pointe Apartment Complex.
According to the 1400 Klub, Burns was a member of the Delta Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
The university told WLBT that Burns was an industrial technology major from Chicago.
He was taken to the hospital around midnight Sunday but died at the hospital.
According to Capitol Police, they are not currently playing an active role in this investigation. They are available should Jackson State University need or request any assistance.
“As always, Capitol Police will maintain a visible presence on campus, in order to help ensure the safety of those who attend and work at Jackson State University”
Jackson police are helping with this investigation.
