A Jackson Police Officer responded to Merit Health around 8:30 am Friday morning in regards to a subject parked in the emergency room area refusing to leave.

Chief Wade said the officer is Corporal Anthony Johnson. He is in serious condition.

As the officer approached the vehicle, the subject drove off and struck the officer and fled the scene.

The vehicle was later stopped at Lynch St near Westover.

The individual was apprehended by police and placed under arrest. The subject was apparently suffering from a mental episode.

The condition of the officer is not known at this time. MBI is handling the investigation.
