No official statement has yet been made to Darkhorse Press, but according to friends of the family and law enforcement sources, fellow firefighters conducted a welfare check on Bates’ home on Ferguson Drive when he did not show up for work.

Authorities say that Bates was found dead and a woman with which he shared the home was barricaded inside.

Negotiators and SWAT were called to the scene, where Tammie Williams, 41, was armed and barricaded.
