UPDATE: Man Who Died After High Speed Chase Into Brandon Identified

UPDATE: Rankin County Coroner David Ruth identified the man who died after the chase as 64-year-old Michael Reed, from Brandon.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in a chase on Hwy 18 in Brandon. The vehicle being chased was a white Z71 truck.

 

The chase ended with the suspect deceased on Hwy 18 near the Johnson Community.

According to Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey, the suspect being chased was wanted out of Rankin County for Violation of his bond conditions on Felony Stalking and had been entered on NCIC as a wanted person.

TIMELINE OF CHASE:

The chase originated in Byram.

Byram police got behind a car with a tag that had a BOLO and was wanted out of Rankin County for violating his bond conditions on Felony Stalking.

The driver/suspect was allegedly making threats to kill himself and harm his ex-girlfriend.

Byram police attempted to pull the truck over and hold him for Rankin County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect ended up speeding away and was chased to Brandon where he got off on Highway 18 and headed out towards the Johnson Community.

The chase ended and the suspect is deceased.

Highway 18 was shut down at the time of the incident.

The chase involved Pearl Police Department, Richland Police Department, MHP, Brandon Police Department, Byram Police Department, and MBI.
