Thanksgiving is such a fun holiday and of course, we want our four-legged buddies to enjoy the day too!

Here is a reminder of some foods that dogs can and cannot eat from the Thanksgiving table! Remember, any human food should be given in moderation if given at all! Do not overfeed your dog or they could become sick.

Dogs CAN have:

  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Turkey (no skin)
  • Corn (no cob)
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Green Beans
  • Apples
  • Pumpkin

Dogs can NOT have:

  • Onion
  • Leeks
  • Ham
  • Turkey bones
  • Casseroles
  • Garlic
  • Grapes
  • Stuffing

According to the American Veterinary Association, when traveling with your pet remember these safety tips! Your pet may need a health certificate (especially if flying or going overseas). Be sure to ask your vet for one! They also advise to never leave your pet alone in the vehicle. Another recommendation is to always make sure you safely restrain your pet in the vehicle. That way, if you brake or swerve quickly then they are safe.

Remember to pack for your pet as much as yourself. If you’re boarding your pet for the holidays, talk to your vet about canine flu and other contagious disease. It’s always good to make sure your pet is up to date on vaccinations too! Make sure your dog’s tag is up to date with the correct phone number and address.
