Friday, for the third year in a row, a group of children filed into the gym at Cade Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and picked out what almost certainly is many of their favorite Christmas gift: A new bicycle.
From 9 a.m. – 10 a.m., the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office hosted the giveaway in partnership with Cade Chapel and Gray-Daniels Ford of Brandon.
Sheriff Tyree Jones said the recipients of the bikes — all students at Walton Elementary School — had qualified and were signed in when they came in, and then they were matched up with a bike that matched their size.
Rev. Reginald Buckley of Cade Chapel introduced Walton Elementary Principal LaRoy Merrick before letting him say a few words, along with hearing from Jones.
The event has been held over the last three years and Jones said he will continue to host it as long as he is sheriff.
