Fire at David’s Grocery in Jones County allegedly started when truck crashed into building

A fire caused heavy damage to David's Grocery in Jones County early Tuesday morning.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an overnight incident that caused extreme damage to a Jones County business.

David’s Grocery, located at 959 Lower Myrick Road, was struck by a pickup truck allegedly driven by Kalyn Gail Jones, 21. The crash ignited a blaze which caused heavy fire and smoke damage to the iconic business.

Jones allegedly fled the scene of the crash on foot and was later arrested by deputies. She is being held at the Jones County Adult Detention Facility charged with Leaving The Scene Of An Accident. Additional charges are possible.

The massive blaze sent numerous Jones County volunteer fire departments to the scene.

JCSD investigators will be on the scene this morning to continue their overnight investigation, officials said.
