Deputy Shoots Human Trafficking Suspect After Suspect Tried To Hit Deputy With Car

A man was shot by a deputy in Desoto County Thursday after trying to hit the deputy with his car.

According to Sheriff Bill Rasco, 26-year-old Darielle Davonte Sparks from Marion, Arkansas was wanted for human trafficking violations.

The traffic stop and shooting happened near Bethel Road and Highway 78 around 2:45 p.m.

Sparks was wanted for human trafficking violations after a human trafficking sting by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department.

When the deputy tried to pull him over for a traffic stop, Sparks tried to run the deputy over with his black Mercedes. That’s when the deputy fired at Sparks, striking him. There were two bullet holes in the window of the car.

Sparks was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay. According to Sheriff Rasco, he was eventually taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a weapon. More charges could be coming.

According to the Desoto County Sheriff’s Department, The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is now handling the investigation into the shooting.
