Over the weekend, a medic working for Covington County EMS was shot while working a call in Magee.

According to Magee Police Department, on Friday Magee Police Department and Covington County EMS were both dispatched to a home on 7th Avenue SE for a welfare check. When the responders knocked on the door for a few minutes, a single shot was fired through the door, striking a medic in the ambulance.

The patient was an 84 year old female with a history of medical conditions. Magee officers and Simpson County Deputies secured the area and were able to talk the elderly woman out of the home, recover the weapon, and have her transported by ambulance for evaluation.

The medic was transported to Forrest General Hospital and was in stable condition at last update.
