Bystanders take gun from alleged Ocean Springs shooter

Two people were shot in Ocean Springs over the weekend, police said.

The shooting occurred in Downtown Ocean Springs Saturday night.

Olive say it was around 11:30 p.m. near the corner of Washington Avenue and Bowen Avenue. When police got there, a security guard had detained the shooter after bystanders took his gun from him. The two injured were both on scene.

Witnesses told police that Jeremy Liberto of Gulfport, was fighting with one of the victims at the Ocean Springs Daquiri Company, left the scene and came back with a gun. After confronting the crowd, Liberto allegedly opened fire, wounding the two victims.

Liberto is currently held at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center with no bond, charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
