A Brookhaven woman asked social media to help her find her car after she says a man pulled a gun on her and took it. As we at Darkhorse Press were working on this story, it was found.
“Welll that was scary…. We hear it every day but I don’t think you’re really ever prepared for it to happen to you,” wrote Cheyenne Long on Saturday. “If anyone sees my little white Ford Edge around report it. I was car jacked at gun point today in downtown Brookhaven. Yes, I’m okay.”
Long said she had just parked her car, which bears the Lincoln County tag # LWA 9374, to go to work on South Jackson Street in Brookhaven around 3:45 p.m. Saturday when a man approached her car door. She said she had opened the door and was putting on her shoes when a black male she described as around 5’10” and 220 pounds blocked her in and demanded her keys.
Long described the man as having a flat bill hat with short hair and no facial hair.
“At first I thought it was a joke, someone recognized me and was playing a joke,” she wrote. “Then I seen the gun.”
Long said the man allowed her to get her cell phone, and then he took the car. Long asked him if he was going to drop it off somewhere and he told her yes, but then didn’t tell her where.
“I was taken into the station recorded giving my statement and given a copy of the police report then sent home,” Long said. “To my knowledge there is a detective assigned to my case. I have messaged and asked about updates, he told me there have not been any.”
To add insult to injury, Long said, she had just bought some cute new jeans that were stolen with the car.
When we contacted Long about this story just after 11 a.m. Tuesday, she said she had just then gotten a call that her car had been found. It is unclear if anyone has been charged or what condition the vehicle is in.
We have reached out to Brookhaven Police Chief Kenny Collins to ask if there is any further information.
We will update when we have more.
