A man is dead and another is in jail charged with felony DUI in a Saturday crash between two passenger vehicles and a motorcycle.

According to Brandon Police Department, just before 9 p.m. Saturday night, a 911 call came in about an accident with injuries on Burnham Road near Chalet Strasse. When officers arrived, they found Matthew Von Weghorst, 49, dead at the scene. Weghorst had been riding a black Harley Davidson motorcycle. The driver of the Nissan Pathfinder involved in the crash was identified as Lorenzo Marcell Sutton, 45, of Brandon.

During the investigation, officers determined that Sutton was allegedly driving while under the influence at the time of the fatal crash. A narrative of the crash states that Sutton was traveling south and swerved into the northbound lane, hitting the Lincoln MKX headed north on Burnham Road. Weghorst was traveling behind Sutton and police say when Sutton’s vehicle spun from the impact with the MKX, it hit Weghorst’s motorcycle and he was thrown from it.

Sutton was arrested and charged with felony aggravated DUI. He was transported to the Rankin County Jail with bond set at $100,000. Sutton is due to appear in Brandon Municipal Court on February 2.
