Argument Over Sex Leads To Man Allegedly Strangling Woman In Columbus

Morgan Howard

On Saturday, May 4, Deputies responded to a disturbance at 190 Wenonah Drive in Columbus.
Once on scene deputies spoke to a 33-year-old victim who had been assaulted by 31-year-old Cory Alexander Beard.
The victim and Beard were currently in a dating relationship. The victim said that Beard placed the victim in a rear chock hold causing her to lose consciousness.
Beard also struck the victim in the face busting the victim’s lip.
The victim stated that the two had argued over sex and she had physical signs of the abuse. Beard left the scene before deputies arrived.
A search for Beard that night was unsuccessful so a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Beard was located and arrested for the charge of Aggravated Domestic Violence by Strangulation.
Beard is now in custody at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center awaiting his initial appearance.
Beard is all too familiar with being arrested as he has been booked into the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center a total of 16 different times for 13 different felony charges and 25 different misdemeanor charges.
Several of these charges were for domestic violence, burglary, felony taking of a motor vehicle, simple assault, shoplifting, and violation of probation. 20 of the previous misdemeanor arrests were for failure to appear.
This is an ongoing investigation and more charges may be filed.
“Thankfully, in this instance, the victim was not critically injured. If you are in an abusive relationship, there are organizations that provide emergency shelter and crisis intervention for victims of domestic violence. Call the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office for further information.”
