YAZOO CITY – Four people have been charged with murder in connection with the July shooting death of McKinley Sawyer Jr., according to the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was called to Yazoo City on July 29 after a shooting that resulted in Sawyer’s death.
MBI investigators and the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office began following leads and gathering information related to the case. The MBI Crime Scene Unit also processed the scene and collected physical evidence.
Authorities said Jaylen Smith, Roderick Patterson Jr., Jamonti Stuckey and Cayden Lewis were charged with murder on Aug. 13.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said they will continue following leads and examining evidence in the case.
The sheriff’s office also extended condolences to Sawyer’s family and loved ones.
The four defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
