Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department releases August DUI arrests

Pearl River County has released their DUI arrests for August

The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department has released their DUI arrests for August.

On Friday, August 2 at 8:07 p.m., the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department’s DUI officer observed a vehicle crossing into the oncoming lane of traffic and proceeded to stop the vehicle. The DUI officer asked the driver of the vehicle, Garred Toney, 39, if he had anything to drink which Toney replied he had one beer. After observing two juveniles in the backseat of the vehicle the DUI officer conducted the field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of these tests a guardian picked up the two juveniles and Toney’s vehicle and Toney was brought to the Correctional Center where Toney refused to give a breathalyzer sample. Toney was then transported to Highland for a blood sample and did not consent to a blood sample but was booked into the hospital while the DUI officer obtained a blood warrant. Upon returning with a signed blood warrant the hospital staff then drew blood. Toney was arrested for DUI 2nd, Child Endangerment x2, Driving under a suspended license, no insurance, and Careless Driving.

On Saturday, August 3 at 12:45 a.m., a PRCSO deputy observed a vehicle going 40mph on Interstate 59 then speed up as well as swerve and cross the lane and shoulder lines. The PRCSO deputy stopped the vehicle and asked the driver, Michael Broadus, 32, for his driver’s license and Broadus handed the deputy a Casino points card. Broadus told the deputy he was coming from dinner with friends in Slidell where he drank two margaritas with double shots in them. The DUI enforcement officer was then called to the scene to perform his investigation. After the conclusion of the field sobriety tests and a Breath Alcohol Content of 0.11 Broadus was arrested for DUI 1st.

On Sunday, August 4 at 12:40 a.m., the PRCSO DUI enforcement officer was patrolling the intersection of Jackson Landing and Highway 11 when a Jeep Wrangler towing a boat failed to stop at the signs in the intersection. The DUI officer turned his lights and sirens on to stop the vehicle. The vehicle did not pull over until Cliff Mitchell Rd. and when the driver, Michael Slayton, 44, was asked why he did not stop when the lights and sirens were deployed, he said he did not hear or see the lights. The DUI officer began his investigation by asking Slayton if he had anything to drink to which Slayton replied he had about 5 to 6 drinks during the day. Upon conclusion of the Field Sobriety Tests the DUI officer attempted to place Slayton in handcuffs which Slayton resisted twice, and ended in an arrest for first offense DUI, Resisting arrest, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, disorderly conduct, no license plate, and improper turn.

On Wednesday, August 7 at 7:00 p.m., the PRCSO DUI enforcement officer was patrolling the intersection of Frontage Rd. and Highway 11 and observed a vehicle pulling out from the parking lot and running off the road for a moment. The DUI officer pulled the vehicle over and as he was approaching the driver, Julio Rivera, 44, the officer noted multiple empty alcoholic beverages in the back seat. The DUI officer asked Rivera if he had anything to drink, to which Rivera replied he could not speak English, but that his son could translate. With Rivera’s son’s help, the DUI officer conducted his investigation. After the investigation and a Breath Alcohol Content of .07 Rivera was arrested for DUI.

On Thursday, August 8 at 12:40 a.m., a PRCSO deputy assisted Picayune Police with a vehicle pursuit that ended on Telly Rd. where the driver of the vehicle, Paul Guchereau, 42, was removed from the vehicle and having trouble standing on his own without leaning on the vehicle. The deputy asked Guchereau if he would participate in Field Sobriety Tests or Breathalyzer which he refused both. While the deputy did an inventory of Guchereau’s vehicle two Four Loko cans, which have an alcohol content of 12%, and a Miller Lite can were found on the floorboards. A Blood warrant was obtained for Guchereau as he stated he was not blowing into anything. While waiting for an available nurse Guchereau was not listening to requests and instructions to stay seated. Guchereau was arrested for disorderly conduct and DUI 1st.

On Thursday, August 8 at 8:56 p.m., the PRCSO DUI enforcement officer along with other deputies were conducting a safety checkpoint at Highway 607 and Asa McQueen Rd. One of the drivers coming through the checkpoint had the smell of alcohol on his breath, Deta McGowan, 40, and he was asked to perform the Field Sobriety Tests. The results of the tests as well as a Breath Alcohol Content of 0.14 concluded in an arrest for DUI.

On Friday, August 9th at 10:00 p.m., a PRCSO deputy was patrolling Entrekin Rd and observed a vehicle moving at abnormally high speed. The deputy conducted a pursuit with lights and sirens to stop the vehicle, once the vehicle was stopped the deputy approached the driver, Cecily Stockstill, 27, and noticed a child in the backseat as well as a male passenger in the front. The male passenger stated he was the one who pressured her into driving fast to avoid getting in trouble for driving without a license. After the deputy spoke and listened to both parties, he determined there was a specific smell of alcohol coming from Stockstill’s breath. Stockstill admitted to drinking two Club Tail beverages, which have an alcohol content of 10%, approximately an hour before and that she was going 65 mph before she was stopped. Stockstill was arrested for DUI 1st, No insurance, Driving with a suspended driver’s license, and speeding on local highways.

On Sunday, August 18 at 12:37 a.m., a PRCSO deputy observed a truck with no working headlights or taillights and proceeded to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Harry Buckley, 26, spoke to the deputy with slurred speech and stated he consumed alcohol before driving. Once PRCSO deputies conducted a search of Buckley’s vehicle they found a half-empty Corona bottle and two small empty Fireball bottles. Once the DUI investigation was complete Buckley was arrested for DUI First Offense.

On Tuesday, August 20 at 7:13 p.m., a PRCSO deputy was patrolling the intersection of Jackson Landing Rd. and Highway 11, where a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle. Once the vehicle was stopped the driver, Christopher Cagins, 45, attempted to exit the vehicle but he had to use the steering wheel and car door to help him get out. The deputy began to speak with Cagins and noticed an open beer in the cup holder and a strong scent of alcohol from Cagins’ breath. When asked if he would consent to Field Sobriety Tests, he stated he had one beer. When the deputy asked what Cagins’ impairment level was on a scale from 1 to 10 in his own opinion Cagins responded it would be an 8. In conclusion of a DUI investigation and Breathalyzer test Cagins was arrested for DUI 3rd, Disorderly Conduct, and Controlled Substance Violation.

On Thursday, August 22 at 7:30 p.m., the PRCSO DUI Enforcement officer was dispatched to a vehicle accident to assist Picayune Officers. Before the DUI officer arrived the driver of a white truck, Gary Fishback, 63, stated he took some form of medication before driving. Upon the DUI officer’s observation of Fishback, he noticed swaying, leaning on his vehicle, pinpoint pupils, and abnormal sweating. The DUI officer asked Fishback if he would consent to a blood draw, and he consented. Fishback was brought to Highland for a blood draw and booked into the jail for DUI First Offense, Careless Driving, and no insurance.

On Wednesday, August 21 at 9:04 p.m., a PRCSO deputy observed a vehicle on Tee Rd. driving carelessly in the oncoming traffic lane. The deputy pulled the vehicle over and upon talking with the driver of the vehicle, Tonya Simmons, 39, he noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from Simmons’ breath. When asked if she had been drinking Simmons stated that she had 2 beers earlier that night. Simmons was arrested for Careless Driving and DUI 1st.

On Sunday, August 25 at 1:54 a.m., a PRCSO deputy was dispatched to a single-vehicle crash where the vehicle had left the roadway and crashed into a fence. The driver of the vehicle, Braxton Guerra, 20, was being examined by AAA ambulance service when the deputy arrived and began to speak with Guerra. The deputy observed a strong odor of alcohol from Guerra’s breath along with some trouble standing. The DUI enforcement officer was contacted to conduct a DUI investigation and Guerra was arrested for DUI First Offense, Disorderly conduct, Driving in more than one lane, and Failure to maintain liability insurance.

On Sunday, August 25 at 3:59 p.m., a PRCSO deputy was dispatched to assist with a motorcycle chase with NASA Protective Services and Picayune Police. Upon the DUI deputy’s arrival, Picayune Police had the suspect, Austin Pullens, 23, in handcuffs and Pullens had stated he had cocaine on him. The DUI deputy spoke with Pullens and noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from Pullens’ breath and when asked if he had been drinking Pullens stated yes at a friend’s house. NASA Protective Services stated that Pullens entered the facility through the south gate without stopping and on multiple occasions attempted to stop him, but he continued through the facility and exited the north gate without stopping. Pullens had a BAC of 0.10. Pullens was arrested for DUI First offense and Controlled Substance Violation.

On Thursday, August 29 at 12:30 a.m., the PRCSO DUI Enforcement officer was assisting Picayune Police with a traffic stop. The vehicle was stopped for careless driving and speeding and the driver, Elizabeth Simmons, 21, told the Picayune Officer she smoked methamphetamines before driving. When the DUI officer spoke with Simmons, she stated she smoked meth 15 minutes prior to getting pulled over. A search of the vehicle was conducted and revealed 2.9 grams of meth and 3.6 grams of marijuana inside the vehicle. Simmons was arrested for DUI First Offense.

On Saturday, August 31, at 3:30 a.m. the PRCSO DUI enforcement officer was dispatched to Poplarville about a suspicious vehicle with a driver asleep behind the wheel. As the DUI officer approached the vehicle, he noticed an empty alcohol container on the ground outside the driver’s door and two empty boxes of alcoholic drinks in the truck bed. The DUI officer made multiple attempts to wake the driver, Dylan Griffin, 22, and after a while, Griffin woke up and was asked to step out of the vehicle. Griffin stumbled and could not stand on his own, so he was asked to sit on the tailgate. Griffin stated that he was coming from his friend’s house where they were having a get-together. The DUI officer observed slurred speech and profuse sweating as well as bloodshot eyes, leading him to ask if Griffin had been drinking at his friend’s house to which Griffin replied, no. Griffin was arrested for DUI-First, Driving with a suspended license, and No insurance.

On Saturday, August 31, at 6:15 p.m. a PRCSO deputy was dispatched to a reckless driver in the area of Ceasar Rd and Magnolia Dr. As the deputy approached the area, he noticed a vehicle with the same description speed past him, slam on their brakes and run off the road. The deputy turned around, pulled the vehicle over, and approached the driver, Nikolas Scott Salisbury, 25. As the deputy spoke with Salisbury, he noted that Salisbury’s eyes were bloodshot, his speech was slurred, and when asked if he had anything to drink Salisbury stated, “A little” and would not explain what he meant by that, just kept repeating “a little.” Salisbury was arrested for DUI-Second, Careless Driving, No insurance, and Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License.
