City of Jackson Opening Cooling Centers Today Due To Extreme Heat

The city of Jackson announced six cooling centers opening up around the city.

These centers will open Thursday.

The following locations will be open from noon to 7 p.m. beginning Thursday, June 29:

Champion Community Center, 1355 Hattiesburg St.

New Jerusalem Church, 1285 Raymond Rd.

Smith Robertson Community Center, 505 John Hart St.

T.L. Love Community Center, 2912 Holmes Ave.

Tougaloo Community Center, 318 Vine St.

Westside Community Center, 1450 Wiggins Rd.

According to the Mississippi National Guard, a 38-year-old Illinois National Guard member has died as a result of heat-related injuries during training at Camp Shelby.
