An overnight shooting in Columbus Sunday night left one person dead and another injured, according to Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton.
A release from Columbus Police Department states that the incident occurred outside the Legends Bar at 2005 13th Avenue North near midnight.
When police arrived, a large crowd was on the scene.
“When we arrived, there were about 200 persons there, and it was a challenge for our officers to provide aid,” Chief Fred Shelton said. “We have received some video from the scene, and that is assisting us in our investigation.”
James A. Overstreet, 45, of Louisville, was arrested and charged Monday with aggravated assault in the shooting. It’s unclear if murder charges will be filed on Overstreet, or if there are additional suspects or charges expected.
“Right now, we have one person under arrest for aggravated assault from the incident,” said Shelton. “The case is still under investigation, and there could be more charges. There was some argument in the area outside the business that led up to the shooting.”
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the victim Monday as Robert Andrew Roby, 29, of Columbus.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at 800-530-7151 or use the free P3 app.
