Deputies on a welfare check find Raymond couple and dog dead

Therese Apel

A welfare check led to the discovery of a Hinds County couple and their dog, deceased for at least a week.

Sheriff Tyree Jones says deputies were sent to the home on Midway Road in Raymond around 7 p.m. for a welfare check.

As they approached the address, they could see there was forced entry used on the gate, and the home was broken into as well.

The couple, who were in their 50s, had been dead between seven to 10 days, Jones told reporters. Because of the decomposition, a cause of death wasn’t immediately determined.

A gun was found at the scene but authorities don’t believe it had to do with the homicide. A window in the home was broken, but it’s unclear if that is relevant either.
