A man was killed in a crash on Highway 503 in Jasper County on Christmas day, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Darion Milsap, 24, of Vossburg, was the only fatality on state and federal highways and interstates over the Christmas holidays. Troopers say he was traveling north on 503 when he lost control of his car and hit a tree.

Milsap was pronounced dead on the scene. The wreck remains under investigation by MHP.

MHP’s Christmas Holiday Travel Enforcement Period concluded Sunday at midnight. The period began on Thursday, December 23rd, at 6:00 a.m. In addition to the Jasper County fatality, the Mississippi Highway Patrol issued 6,520 citations, made 146 arrests for impaired driving, and investigated 174 crashes resulting in 30 injuries.

While this year’s holiday brought more than 1,100 more citations than last year, more DUIs, and more child restraint tickets, the number of crashes was down, as were fatal crashes and fatalities.
