11-year-old shot in the face in Tupelo, 15-year-old in custody

An 11-year-old is in the hospital fighting for his life after being shot in the face in Tupelo, and the main suspect is a 15-year-old.

Tupelo police say early in the morning on Wednesday, they were notified that the child was at LeBonheur in Memphis with a possible gunshot wound to the face. He had been airlifted from North Mississippi Medical Center.

Memphis Child Protective Services was contacted and police received information that the child had been shot in the 500 block of Lumpkin. Officers located the scene and began an investigation. Investigators also were sent to LeBonheur to probe the case further.

As a result of the preliminary investigation a 15-year-old male has been detained. Other arrests are possible as this investigation continues. The victim is stable in critical condition.
