19-Year-Old Killed After Vehicle Flips Into Pond In Lafayette County

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly motor vehicle accident that occurred on the 500 block of County Road 103. On August 18, at approximately 11:39 a.m., a call was received by Lafayette County 911 Dispatch reporting a vehicle overturned in a pond on private property.

Emergency responders, including units from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette County Fire Department, Oxford Fire Department, and Baptist Ambulance Service, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, it was determined that the accident likely occurred overnight. The vehicle was recovered from the pond by the Lafayette County Fire Department and Shivers Towing Service.

The driver, identified as 19-year-old Gray Cassidy of Oxford, Mississippi, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Lafayette County Coroner Glenn Coleman.

“This is a heartbreaking situation for our community,” said Sheriff Joey East. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Gray Cassidy during this difficult time.”

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.
