Deputies from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of possible animal cruelty on County Road 418 on August 4.
When deputies arrived, they found several malnourished dogs and multiple deceased dogs still attached to their collars and chains.
With no one home at the time, investigators obtained a search warrant and rescued 20 dogs, which were taken to a local veterinarian for evaluation and care. Tragically, 10 additional dogs were found deceased on the property.
On August 7, 47-year-old Terry E. Pegues was arrested and charged with 10 counts of animal cruelty.
Pegues was given a $75,000 bond by the Lafayette County Justice Court.
