UPDATE 6-22-22: Clinton Police Department said in a statement this morning that Darla Luke, the mother of the infant, has been charged with felony child neglect. The other children were placed with a grandmother. This case is still under investigation.

Police said Darla Luke was charged with misdemeanor child neglect just two weeks ago as well. At some point between June 7 and June 21, the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services returned the children to her custody.

ORIGINAL STORY 6-21-22:
According to WLBT, a baby died Tuesday morning in a Clinton hotel.

The hotel manager tells the TV station that there were five people who had been staying in the same room for close to six weeks. Around 10 a.m. Tuesday, someone inside the room started screaming, and neighbors called 911.

No charges have yet been filed, and it’s not clear if they will be. Clinton spokeswoman Amanda Jones said the investigation is ongoing.
