A shooting in Waveland left one dead and one injured, while a Hancock County deputy and an American Medical Response crew were injured in a collision while transporting the shooting victims to the hospital, the Sea Coast Echo reports.

Police Chief Mike Prendergast said Thursday in a release that Waveland officers were sent to Hargett street for a shooting and when they arrived, they found two victims. They were both transported to hospitals, but one died. The names of the shooting victims and the condition of the survivor have not yet been released.

On the way to the hospital, one of the ambulances collided with their Sheriff’s Department escort, the Echo reports.

“My guy was in the lead, and he passed up the turn-off on the highway,” Sheriff Ricky Adam told reporters. “Instead of turning into the hospital, the ambulance hit him broadside, I’m not really sure why.”

The deputy had injuries to his chest, including a broken rib, and was taken to Forrest General. At least two AMR employees were also injured, though the nature of their injuries has not been released.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Waveland Police Department at 228-467-3669 or Crimestoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
