According to the Mississippi Sheriffs Association, Yalobusha County Sheriff Mark Fulco died while hospitalized on Monday.
Association President and Calhoun County Sheriff Greg Pollan said Fulco had told him in a text that he was in the hospital with pneumonia. On Monday evening, officials confirmed the death was Covid-related.
“Its with great sadness and broken hearts that we announced the untimely death of sheriff Mark Fulco of Yalobusha County,” Pollan said. “We lost Hinds County Sheriff Lee Vance last week, and now here we are a week later and I’m having to address another untimely death of another brother law enforcement officer due to Covid-like symptoms.”
Pollan said he and Fulco had become good friends since Fulco was elected.
“We talked daily if not more,” he said.
It’s unclear if Fulco contracted the illness on duty.
Vance died overnight Tuesday. His funeral will be held Saturday at the Coliseum in Jackson.
