According to WLOX, a woman from the coast pleaded guilty to 10 counts of simple animal cruelty after over 30 dead dogs were found on her Harrison County property in 2022.
Jessica Collins was sentenced to 60 months in jail with all but six months suspended. Her sentence begins in six weeks.
In late April 2022 authorities found over 30 dead dogs on Collins’ property. Several of the dead dogs had been burned and others were in trash bags.
More than a dozen dogs were still alive on the property.
An animal advocate, Connie Call, told WLOX that Collins was running an operation called “Deep South Animal Rescue”. WLOX said they could not confirm this was an actual 501 (c)(3) organization.
Collins had to pay $4,000 in fines, court costs, and restitution to the Humane Society of South Mississippi. She was also ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation and treatment if needed.
