According to WLOX, on Thursday, the Waveland Police Department announced the arrest of 24-year-old Taye Thomas-Troy Dufrene following an investigation into a carjacking incident.

The carjacking happened around 8 a.m. Thursday morning when a woman was approached by Dufrene in the parking lot of Wal-Mart.

Dufrene asked the woman for a ride, offering money in return. She agreed, but as they drove into the area of Avenue B and Coral Street, Dufrene began punching her in the face and threatened to kill her if she didn’t get out of the car. The woman complied, and Dufrene drove off in the vehicle.

A BOLO alert was issued for Dufrene and the stolen vehicle. The vehicle was later spotted by a Bay St. Louis Police Department unit at the corner of Washington Street and Highway 90. When confronted by the officer, Dufrene fled the scene.

A search ensued involving officials from the Waveland PD, Bay St. Louis PD, and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office. A K-9 unit eventually found Dufrene hiding in a wooded area.

Dufrene informed officials that he had recently injected methamphetamine and was experiencing a bad reaction. He was taken to Ochsner Medical Center for treatment.

Once released from Ochsner, Dufrene will face charges of carjacking, with additional charges pending.
