On Thursday, July 11, the Winston County Sheriff’s Department responded to a disturbing series of events leading to the arrest of a double murder suspect, Carlos Daniels.

The investigation began at 6:12 a.m. when deputies received a 911 call from a concerned citizen on Zion Ridge Road.

The caller reported finding bloody clothing and bed sheets in their garbage can. Deputies arrived on the scene and secured the evidence.

At 4:47 p.m., the Sheriff’s Department received another 911 call about a welfare check at 2920 Zion Ridge Road. Upon arrival, deputies found the doors locked and entered through a window. Inside, they found two bodies. Mississippi Bureau of Investigations Crime Scene Unit was called in to process the site.

Investigators interviewed family and friends, identifying Carlos Daniels as a person of interest. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) was issued for Daniels and his vehicle. Authorities determined Daniels was in Scott County, Mississippi.

Scott County Sheriff’s Department located Daniels’ vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Chief Deputy Brad Ellis, with support from Chief Pete Lingle of Lake PD, Scott County SWAT, and deputies, apprehended Daniels without incident. He was initially arrested on unrelated warrants and later taken into custody by Winston County deputies for transportation back to Winston County.

The victims, identified as Linda Daniels and Chancie Ware, the mother and girlfriend of Carlos Daniels, will undergo autopsies at the Mississippi Crime Lab.

Carlos Daniels will be officially charged with two counts of first-degree murder. The investigation is ongoing, with Winston County Sheriff’s Department expressing gratitude to Louisville Police Department, Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, and other agencies for their assistance.
