According to WTVA, a Winona man was killed when he ran from police while riding an ATV on Stafford Wells Road just south of Highway 407.

Montgomery County Coroner Allan Pratt told WTVA it happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Winona Mayor Aaron Dees said that an officer pulled the man over for speeding down Highway 407. When the officer went back to his patrol car to get a breathalyzer test, the man on the ATV drove off.

The officer followed the ATV down Stafford Wells Road near the airport. The ATV flipped during the chase, killing the driver.

The driver was identified as David Nix.

WTVA reports that David Oswald, Nix’s cousin, said that he saw the accident happen from his home. He also said that his cousin wasn’t drinking that day, and he had been with him the whole day.

This incident is under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
