Waynesboro Man Arrested For Enticement of a Minor Child, Drug Possession

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Waynesboro man overnight close to midnight following a parent’s complaint of a minor child receiving text messages of a sexual nature.

James Phillips, age 45, was arrested at Bogue Homa Lake by JCSD Sergeant J.D. Carter and Sergeant Jeff Monk after Phillips texted a 16 year old male to arrange to meet him in the men’s bathroom at the lake for sexual purposes. The explicit text message was one of several that Phillips is alleged to have sent.

James Phillips is charged with Enticement of a Child for Sexual Purposes and Possession of a Controlled Substance – Meth.  His initial appearance in Jones County Justice Court on Friday afternoon led to a $10,000 bond being set.

Sheriff Joe Berlin notes, “The allegation of enticement of a child for sexual purposes is one of a very serious nature. Following a parent’s report of the text messages that were received, we moved quickly to apprehend James Phillips and charge him.”
