The Jones County Sheriff’s Department responded to a pedestrian hit by a vehicle at 7:00 a.m. this morning on Hoy Road.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, an adult male sanitation worker was hit by a passenger vehicle while picking up residential garbage.

The worker sustained what appeared to be serious injuries and was transported by EMServ Ambulance Service to South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel for treatment.

The driver of the passenger vehicle did not sustain any injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

Volunteer fire and rescue units from Jones County Fire District 2 also responded to the scene.
