A standoff ended peacefully on Thursday morning when James Chandler Martin, a wanted individual, was taken into custody by the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department at a home on Sundance Circle.

The incident began around 9:51 a.m. when deputies attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant on Martin at his home at 256 Sundance Circle. Upon making contact, Martin refused to comply with the deputies’ verbal commands and barricaded himself inside the house, threatening to use firearms against law enforcement.

In response to the escalating situation, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department Special Response Team and the Richland Police Department Special Response Team, along with multiple Crisis Incident Negotiators, were called to the scene. Over the next hour, negotiators made several attempts to contact Martin by phone to peacefully resolve the situation. However, the calls were often short and marked by Martin’s aggression and hostility.

At 10:58 a.m., Martin surrendered to officers and was taken into custody. He was transported to the Rankin County Jail, where he is currently being held. Authorities indicated that, based on the circumstances of the standoff, additional charges may be pending against Martin.

The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department expressed gratitude to the Richland Police Department for their assistance in the resolution of the incident.
