Tyler Perry was in Mississippi making movies! The Clarksdale Police Department shared the following on social media:

“Thanks to Mayor Chuck Espy for arranging a meet and greet with Mr. Tyler Perry. Tyler Perry Studios chose Clarksdale, MS to shoot scenes for his upcoming movie, Joe’s College Road Trip. Thank you Mr. Perry for choosing Clarksdale!!“

Tyler Perry is a renowned actor, playwright, filmmaker, and comedian, best known to some for creating the character Madea, a tough elderly woman played by himself. Perry was born in New Orleans, and has gained widespread acclaim first for his stage plays and later filmmaking with his popular Madea film series. He then delved into the horror genre, which he has taken by storm as well. Beyond his entertainment career, Perry is recognized for his philanthropy and for his establishment of Tyler Perry Studios, one of the largest film production studios in the U.S.

Netflix recently announced the movie Joe’s College Road Trip as one of several new movies slated for this year, saying “ Tyler Perry is on board, having written the screenplay, and will direct, too. Producing the movie are Perry and long-time collaborators Angi Bones (The Negotiator, Blade) and Will Areu (A Fall From Grace).”

Here’s the synopsis for the upcoming film:

“Realizing he may have sheltered his son for too long, BRIAN begrudgingly agrees to send his son B.J. on a college tour with his grandfather in the hopes that JOE can teach him a thing or two about Black History and the real world – ideally without getting them both killed in the process. Generations clash as the two embark and they quickly run into trouble. But somewhere along the way, B.J. gains a new perspective on the generations that came before him, and comes to appreciate his grandpa Joe…”
