According to WTOK, two people were killed in a wreck on New Year’s Day. The crash happened at 5:00 a.m. on the 3400 block of 35th Ave.

The Meridian police department said that a stolen vehicle with five teenagers crashed. Lauderdale County Coroner Stella McMahan said that one teenager was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

A second teenager died Monday evening as a result of injuries from the wreck, according to Detective Chanetta Stevens with the Meridian Police Department.

WTOK reports that three of the teenagers were airlifted to the hospital in critical condition and one person fled on foot.

Names are not being released due to the teenagers being under 18.

The Meridian Police Department said this is an ongoing investigation.
