UPDATE: One Officer Killed, Two Officers Injured In Shooting During Traffic Stop

UPDATE: The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) confirmed that one Summit police officer was killed during an officer-involved shooting Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened on West Railroad Avenue.

Officers with the Summit Police Department were working a checkpoint near West Railroad Avenue when a car approached.

MBI said that a passenger subject presented a weapon towards the officers, striking one Summit police officer and killing him.

Two additional McComb police officers arrived in the area and encountered the subject, engaging in an exchange of gunfire.

Both McComb officers received non-life-threatening injuries in the exchange and the subject was killed.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence.

Two officers have been shot in Summit.

The suspect was also shot.

The conditions of the officers and suspects are unknown at this time and no identities have been released yet.

The suspect allegedly open-fired on officers during a traffic stop.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Department asks people to avoid the area and allow law enforcement to resolve the situation.

MBI said they are investigating an officer-involved shooting and working to gather information.
