The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving Madison County Sheriff’s Department that occurred Tuesday.
A release from the Department of Public Safety states that around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in Canton, deputies were responding to a call for service regarding a domestic disturbance at a homein the area of Oakfield Boulevard. The call stated someone may have been fatally injured, authorities said.
When deputies got there, officials say two people who had been shot met them at the entrance of the neighborhood. Tips began to come in that the shooter might still be in the area.
Deputies engaged in a short chase with the suspect, and at the end of it, he pulled out a weapon. Authorities engaged, and at some point the suspect was fatally shot, officials said. It is unclear who shot him.
The deputies involved did not receive any serious physical injuries during this incident.
Of the two people who were found shot at the entrance to the neighborhood, one died at the hospital.
MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the
investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
