On Sunday, February 5, at approximately 2:47 a.m., two officers with the Corinth Police Department were patrolling on U.S. Highway 72 when they noticed three vehicles parked in front of an abandoned building.
One of the vehicles had two men inside. The officers stopped to investigate, and when they did one of the men got out of the car and went into the building.
Officer Oglesby made contact with the driver, Donald Johnson, and he stated that he had been given permission to stay at the building by his passenger, Dustin Bray.
A quick call to dispatch confirmed that Mr. Bray had an Active Warrant with the City of Corinth.
Officers noticed that there was a wide assortment of items strewn in the vehicle including power tools.
Many of the items were consistent with items that are often stolen in car burglaries and burglaries of storage units. Mr. Johnson was directed to exit the vehicle and then gave consent to search his vehicle.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of a clear plastic baggy containing Methamphetamines and a cut straw with Methamphetamine residue on it.
Johnson was placed under arrest and then transported to the Alcorn County Jail where he was booked in for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and he was later charged for Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamines).
The narcotics were processed into evidence and will be transported to the State Crime Lab for confirmation testing. Mr. Bray was also placed under arrest and booked into jail for his Active Municipal Warrant.
The felony drug charge will be presented to an Alcorn County Grand Jury and the misdemeanor charges will be handled in Corinth Municipal Court.
